What is the abortion pill?
Contrary to its name, the abortion pill is not just a single pill. It consists of two separate medications taken in sequence. The abortion pill is often referred to as “medical abortion” or “medication abortion”. The abortion pill is different from emergency contraception pills
(sometimes referred to as “the morning-after pill”), which are used to prevent a potential pregnancy after unprotected sex.
When can I take the abortion pill?
The abortion pill procedure is typically available within the first 10 weeks and 6 days after the
start of your last menstrual period (LMP).

How does the abortion pill work?
The abortion pill uses two medications, which are taken separately. The initial pill is taken to

leading to contractions, cramping, and bleeding. Typically within a few hours of taking it, this

Is the abortion pill safe?
It is not safe to take the abortion pill until you have ruled out an ectopic pregnancy which is

Based on what has been reported, the risk of death after taking the abortion pill is small, but
serious complications do happen, including those listed below. It is important to note that
many physicians advise against taking the abortion pill at home without having on-site medical
supervision.
What are the side effects of the abortion pill?
The abortion pill may cause side effects similar to a miscarriage, which typically last about two
weeks. Some of the more common side effects include:
- Cramping and heavy bleeding with large clots
- Spotting that can last for several days or weeks after taking the medication
- Upset stomach (including nausea and/or diarrhea)
- Dizziness and fatigue
- Fever or chills (you’ll want to call your doctor right away if you experience a fever, as it could be a sign of infection

the availability of this option varies by state. If you obtain the abortion pill online, you will still need
to consult with a doctor who is licensed to prescribe the medication.
If you are planning on trying to order the abortion pill online, you will need to receive pregnancy
testing for pregnancy verification, as well as an ultrasound to confirm exactly how far along
your pregnancy is (and to ensure there are no other complications such as an ectopic

Do I have to have my parent’s permission to get the abortion pill if I’m
